Diversity Scholarships: Our scholarship program helps students attend journalism conferences, providing stipends to offset travel and registration costs and to increase access to these events for those who otherwise would be unable to attend. We especially encourage students from an underrepresented group to apply.

Emerging Reporters: This program provides stipends and mentorship to five students who have demonstrated financial need, and we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds. It includes $9,000 and trips to ProPublica’s New York office and a journalism conference.

The Data Institute: The two-week, all-expenses-paid intensive workshop teaches journalists data, design and coding skills. This program is now run by the Ida B. Wells Society.

Local Reporting Network Grants: ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network pays the salary and a stipend for benefits for reporters at news organizations across the country so they can spend a year working on an accountability journalism project of importance to their communities.

ONA Diversity Breakfast: The annual breakfast at the ONA conference facilitated by ProPublica pairs managing editors, executive editors and other leading professionals in the industry with journalists from underrepresented communities.
